Think Mauritius

Shahrukh Khan will give a concert in Mauritius on Saturday, 19 August at Anjalay Stadium. Organisers, who promise a show faithful to his Temptation Tour, expect 25000 fans to turn up for the event. As usual, other Bollywood stars, such as Priyanka Chopra, Celina Jaitley, and Zayed Khan, will accompany him.

Shahrukh Khan was propelled to success following his role in Devdas and remains as the king of Bollywood thanks to a string of successive blockbuster movies. SRK, as he is affectionately called, has now achieved demigod status among his numerous fans.

Tickets for the concert will cost between Rs 1,000 and Rs 15,000 — paying the top price gives fans access to the after-party event and a chance to meet the man himself. While waiting for the concert, fans can warm up to The Inner and Outer World of Shahrukh Khan DVD set that documents the life of the star.

The Media Commission Bill was presented to Parliament last week. It paves the way to a commission with greater powers over the media in Mauritius. Journalists are alarmed and question the need for this proposal at a time when the Media Trust (albeit leaderless) and laws already regulate their profession.

Writing this inaugural post is proving extremely difficult. Let alone writer’s block in front of a blank site, the difficulty is finding a suitable topic that will set the correct tone for future posts to come. So, to avoid making a blunder of this honourable invitation to author the first post on Think Mauritius and marginalising a fraction of the potential readership with a one-sided subject, I will turn the table and make this the reader’s post.

I want to do this by posing a simple question: What would you want to see on Think Mauritius?

The About page already describes the purpose of the site, that of providing a publishing platform for writers with opinions and views to share about Mauritius.
